Q  My 14 year old wants to wear shorts and a t-shirt to the mall. Is this okay or should I insist she cover up?

A There are no set rules about this but government websites do state that you are expected to dress modestly and women should avoid low-cut tops, short skirts and bare arms (especially during Ramadan). Men and women should not walk around in swim-wear or bikinis, unless they are at the beach or poolside. So I would suggest you encourage her to wear long shorts to her knees or jeans and a t-shirt.
