Q A friend of mine came to Dubai and has been working in a company for 5 months on a residency visa as a marketing executive. She now wants to leave the job. She is on a 6 month probation period. Will she be banned from working for the next 6 months ?
A If the period of employment is less than 2 years, an automatic 6 month work ban will be imposed by Ministry of Labour. This ban can be removed only if employee’s new employer pays her according to her qualification level and she has the supporting educational certificate. This 6 month ban is easier to remove if employee has a higher designation.
Additionally, upon termination of contract current employer reserves the right to request a 1 year work ban depending on the terms on which she left.
The above rules are not applicable for free zones companies.
