Ask Louise – Where to Live in Dubai?
We are moving to Dubai in 2-3mths with my husbands job. We have 18yr son & 15yrs daughter. Where would you recommend we live? School been our main priority and distance from school as I don’t drive. We have an allowance of DHS 130,000 and would prefer villa complex with shared pool etc.
I would recommend for this budget you look at Mirdif where there are small compounds with swimming pools. From here you can get a bus or a short taxi ride to the Rashidiya metro station. Schools that may have availability for your 15 year old would be Uptown Mirdif, GEMS Wellington Silicon Oasis and Repton – these schools will have school bus services. Another area to consider would be The Springs (however your budget maybe a bit tight). This area has a bus service which will connect you with the Metro and in this area are two schools Dubai British School and Emirates International. There are cheaper areas which are new such as Jumeirah Village however not with community swimming pools or transport options. Since your children are older you could also consider apartment living. Many are very spacious and come with the use of gyms and swimming pools. A convenient area for all of you would be Jumeirah Lake Towers where you can walk out to the metro and school buses will service this area.
School places are very tight in Dubai so I strongly recommend you contact the schools as soon as possible to see which schools can offer you a place. Please see our school directory.
