french-singersWorld music day is a music festival organized by the Alliance Française of Dubai, the French cultural center. Named “la Fête de la Musique” in french, it will take place in the unique surroundings of the Souk Madinat Jumeirah. Amateur and professional musicians will invade the alleys of the souk and perform from 7 pm till 10 pm this Friday 21 June.

The Fête de la Musique will allow the expression of all styles of music in a cheerful atmosphere,and will be representative of the cultural diversity of the UAE. The various acts and artists present a wide diversity of instruments, traditions and sounds. It helps popularize musical practice for all people of different ages. This is likely to be one of the most varied and colorful musical events of the season. Read more

directors-chairBackstage is all set to kick-start its short play season 2013-2014 with the first call-out for potential writers & directors.

There will be 2 evenings of short plays for this season. Each evening will have multiple plays ranging from 10 mins to 1 hour in length. While there will be well-known scripts that will be put up during these evenings, we are also looking for original scripts that could be put up as well. As usual, Backstage will keep its aim of trying to encourage new talent during our short play season. Therefore, no prior experience is required to either write or director the short plays. ADMAF Children’s Art Tent 28 January – 2 February 2013

The Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation is proud to announce the fourth Children’s Art Tent at Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort January 28th to February 2nd 2013. The Children’s Art Tent is a hugely successful initiative that aims at helping children learn about wildlife, nature and their local environment through the medium of art. The art workshops are free on admission to the Al Ain Wildlife Park and will incorporate various exciting workshops and activities aimed at children between 4 -15 years old.

Professional artists and instructors will be on hand to teach and encourage children in their chosen activity which ranges from animal mask-making and silhouette sculptures. Last year’s event saw more than 3000 visitors attend the park during Art Tent and the 2013 event hopes to be even bigger and better with more activities and more artistic challenges for our young guests.
