Thanks for posting these tips!

We also have a young family (2 kids, aged 2yrs & 4yrs) and would love to take them camping. As newbies ourselves the day trip outings sound like a great idea, as we don't yet own any camping gear. We have a regular saloon & don't unfortunately own a 4x4. Any info on which campsites & companies to go with in and around Dubai would be most appreciated.

Dear SD,

We would suggest that you start with some of the offroad clubs here in the UAE. Companies generally tailor courses towards the desert driving aspect of things (the getting there), rather than the enjoyment of being out in the desert or mountains.

Now that the weather is getting cooler you might like to start with one of the day trips / BBQ outings offered to "Newbies" with AD4x4, Dubai 4x4, Almost 4x4, UAE Offroaders, etc. That way there is no need to invest in sleeping equipment yet, and you will just need a cool box, and some very basic car items (like a tire gauge, shovel and your own tow rope).

By joining a club, you will also hopefully acquire a few friends to go out with, which you would not get from a company run outing.

You can find a list of clubs here:

I hope this is helpful!
