Dubai Expat Interview – Ann

This week’s Into-yous features French expat Ann

Tell us a little about yourself:
I’m a 22 years old French student, I decided to complete my master in Dubai.

When did you move to Dubai and what brought you here?
I moved mid-September to study here, because I wanted to escape from France and Europe. Life seemed so much easier here, and the weather is amazing. I wanted to discover another way of life and I love it. When I will be done with my master, I want to find a job here and stay for a few years.

Have you been an expat elsewhere and if so, where?
In Holland for 2 years between fall 2010 and summer 2012.

The best advice you were given to prepare you for life in Dubai:
Don’t pack too much sweaters and jackets.

What surprised you most about Dubai?
I love the diversity and how everyone is always welcoming. Also, everyone back in France has a lot of clichés concerning life here: you can’t wear shorts, can’t drink… Well that’s definitely not true.

What area do you live in?

If money were no object, where would you most like to live in Dubai?
Still JBR

Your favourite Arabic word or phrase you have learned so far:

Your least favourite word or phrase you have adopted since moving to Dubai:

What has been your best experience in Dubai to date?
I had some great experiences, one of the best ones was New Year 2012, spending new year dancing on the Sand for hours is priceless!

Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
I’m going back to France to see my family and friends, maybe plan something for this summer as I don’t want to stay the whole summer. (too hot!!)

Who is the person you most miss when you are in Dubai?
My parents & close friends

What is your favourite restaurant in Dubai?
I love La Parilla, in Jumeirah Beach Hotel. I went only once, I dont usually go into these kind of restaurant but it was absolutely amazing.

What grocery item do you most miss from your home country?
La Baguette !!

When friends and family visit you in Dubai where will you absolutely take them?
For my parents, it would be more desert/malls/souks. For my friends, I will take them out, to the beach, to the malls as well, can’t miss them …
