This week’s Into-yous features South African expat Ben Yates

Tell us a little about yourself:
I always find it hard to answer this question without sounding almost exactly the same as most people, but what I can say about myself, in one word confidently, is that I’m really resourceful. 🙂    I have a keen interest in aquariums and lots of experience in treating/medicating fish and reptiles and reptile maintenance which I offer as a service here in Dubai.

Have you been an expat elsewhere and if so, where?
No, unfortunately not. Only Dubai.

The best advice you were given to prepare you for life in Dubai:
Take most things with just a pinch of salt.

What surprised you most about Dubai?
The fact that most of us are in the same situation, but in different positions.

What area do you live in?
Jumeirah Village Circle

If money were no object, where would you most like to live in Dubai?
The Islands 🙂

Your favourite Arabic word or phrase you have learned so far:
mumkin (not sure of the english spelling though) = maybe

Your least favourite word or phrase you have adopted since moving to Dubai:
khalas = finish (only because its common)

What has been your best experience in Dubai to date?
Fly boarding in the sea.

Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
United Kingdom / France

Who is the person you most miss when you are in Dubai?
nobody really. My wife is in Dubai,

What is your favourite restaurant in Dubai?
Maria Bonitas in Jumeirah

What grocery item do you most miss from your home country?
Freshpak rooibos Tea

When friends and family visit you in Dubai where will you absolutely take them?
Wild Wadi
