Tell us a little about yourself:
I am a Personal Chef & Restaurant Consultant. I cater private events, cooking parties and home deliveries. My specialties are customizing seasonal and local ingredients to create delicious and innovative gourmet meals. Follow me on Facebook at chefcal83 & LinkedIn.

When did you move to Dubai and what brought you here:
I moved to Dubai in May 2014 to accompany my wife as her career brought her to the UAE.

Have you been an expat elsewhere and if so, where?
Dubai is my first expat experience.

The best advice you were given to prepare you for life in Dubai:
The best advice I received for my life in Dubai was to explore as many places in the UAE and surrounding areas as possible.

What surprised you most about Dubai?
I was most surprised by the vast culinary choices.

What area do you live in?
I live in Downtown Dubai.

If money were no object, where would you most like to live in Dubai?
I prefer the Downtown Dubai area.

Your favourite Arabic word or phrase you have learned so far:
I’m just about to start my Arabic language lessons.

Your least favourite word or phrase you have adopted since moving to Dubai:
It’s hot out!

What has been your best experience in Dubai to date?
I enjoyed meeting new people and exploring all areas of Dubai.

Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
Thailand

Who is the person you most miss when you are in Dubai?
Friends and family back in Chicago

What is your favourite restaurant in Dubai?
While I have had the opportunity to taste many menus, my favorite is Mint Leaf’s Indian cuisine.

What grocery item do you most miss from your home country?
Dried chiles

When friends and family visit you in Dubai where will you absolutely take them?
Bu Qtair fish restaurant in Jumeriah
