Dubai Expat Interviews – Shana Kad

This week’s Into-yous features British expat Shana Kad.

Tell us a little about yourself
I am a mum of 2 beautiful boys and the wife to an amazing man … I am a freelance Master NLP Coach /Trainer Consultant with over 15 years experience in the corporate world of IT and consultancy company IBM. Just over a year ago I decided to walk my talk and follow my passion so I started my own company called Life Effective Coaching, where I get to inspire people to start living the life they choose and can be proud of.

When did you move to Dubai and what brought you here?
We moved to Dubai over 3 years ago, when my husband was offered a very exciting new job.

Have you been an expat elsewhere and if so, where?
Dubai is the first place we have lived as Expats.

The best advice you were given to prepare you for life in Dubai
Don’t be in a hurry for anything… it’s far too hot!!!

What surprised you most about Dubai?
How very quickly it changes from one month to the next… from the view out of your window, to the people around you. Change is always in the air!

What area do you live in?
We live in JBR, Dubai Marina.

If money were no object, where would you most like to live in Dubai?
Emirates Hills, overlooking the Montgomerie Golf Course. I love rolling green fields. Would be great to wake up to that view every morning.

Your favorite Arabic word or phrase you have learned so far
InShallah… comes in very handy.

Your least favorite word or phrase you have adopted since moving to Dubai
‘What to do’ as in ‘can’t be helped.’

What has been your best experience in Dubai to date?
Wow, so many but I guess I can say that I learnt a lot about myself here and found the courage to stand-up and take a leap of faith in myself.

Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
We are planning the Maldives next year.

Who is the person you most miss when you are in Dubai?
We see our families so much,I guess I don’t get to miss them as such. Just always look forward to the next visit.

What is your favorite restaurant in Dubai?
The Italian in Madinat – Segreto. Love the surroundings and the food.

What grocery item do you most miss from your home country?
I really miss Cadbury’s Chocolate Mousse. Never found it in Dubai.

When friends and family visit you in Dubai where will you absolutely take them?
To The Royal Mirage, One & Only Hotel on the Palm.
