Dubai Expat Interview – Siobhan Grant

This week’s Into-yous features British expat Siobhan Grant.

Tell us a little about yourself
I’m 24 years old (cough nearly 25). I’m bubbly fun and outgoing and love meeting new people and experiencing new challenges. I am also a hairdresser and very passionate about my job!

When did you move to Dubai and what brought you here?
I’ve been here since Sept 2011 and for new challenges as previously stated and sunshine and to hopefully make some money.

Have you been an expat elsewhere and if so, where?
Nope, this is my first time moving away from home town!

The best advice you were given to prepare you for life in Dubai
Promises are easily broken here and don’t believe everything you hear or read about but still be cautious and careful.

What surprised you most about Dubai?
The partying scene to be honest… I love ladies nights!

What area do you live in?
Originally stayed with family at Arabian Ranches but recently moved to JBR for a more livelier scene.

If money were no object, where would you most like to live in Dubai?
A private villa near the beach so probably The Palm.

Your favorite Arabic word or phrase you have learned so far
Shukran. Not used enough thou!

Your least favorite word or phrase you have adopted since moving to Dubai
In shallah…yeah yeah whatever.

What has been your best experience in Dubai to date?
I haven’t done much since being here, as family lived here, but Aquaventure at Atlantis was amazing especially the death slide!

Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
Next holiday will be in UK as I miss friends like crazy and then maybe a trip to Oman.

Who is the person you most miss when you are in Dubai?
My best friend since birth. 🙁

What is your favorite restaurant in Dubai?
Johnny Rockets in Dubai Marina, a diner set in the 50s.

What grocery item do you most miss from your home country?
Walkers crisps!

When friends and family visit you in Dubai where will you absolutely take them?
Burj Khalifia to see the fountains as there is nothing else like it in the world!

  1. Kate says:

    Hi Siobhan,
Out of curiosity, at which salon do you work? I’ve been in Dubai for quite a while now, and I have not yet found a hair dresser that can “handle” my hair.
    xx
