Tell us a little about yourself:
I am a Capoeira instructor based in Dubai. I have 26 years experience in practicing different martial arts and other non-martial sports. I have a medical education background and am ACE certified personal trainer. For the last 6 years I’ve been dedicating myself to improve the quality of Capoeira and add vitality to my students’ lives – kids and adults.
When did you move to Dubai and what brought you here?
I have moved to Dubai 9 years ago with my ex-wife.
Have you been an expat elsewhere and if so, where?
No.
The best advice you were given to prepare you for life in Dubai:
I wasn’t given any.
What surprised you most about Dubai?
Contrasts in everything.
What area do you live in?
Jumeirah Beach Residence
If money were no object, where would you most like to live in Dubai?
Palm Jumeirah
Your favourite Arabic word or phrase you have learned so far:
Agul’lyak!
Your least favourite word or phrase you have adopted since moving to Dubai:
Inshallah tomorrow.
What has been your best experience in Dubai to date?
I met my current wife here.
Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
Brasil
Who is the person you most miss when you are in Dubai?
My parents.
What is your favourite restaurant in Dubai?
Any restaurant that serves good meat or the Japanese restaurant Kisaku.
What grocery item do you most miss from your home country?
Good old rye brown bread.
When friends and family visit you in Dubai where will you absolutely take them?
To the beach?
