Dubai Expat Interviews – Laila Lambert
Today’s Into-yous features British expat Laila Lambert
Tell us a little about yourself
I have lived in the Middle East a total of 12 years, working in the Wellness industry. I recently took a small redirection with my business and now I specialise in handmade fairy and angel crafts, gemstones and crystals – I call myself the Sparklefairy.
When did you move to Dubai and what brought you here?
I moved from Saudi to Kuwait to Dubai with my husband Wayne.
Have you been an expat elsewhere and if so, where?
Yes, Saudi and Kuwait.
The best advice you were given to prepare you for life in Dubai.
Always remember and respect it’s a Muslim country.
What surprised you most about Dubai?
The contrast of tall multi-million dollar buildings with the desert.
If money were no object, where would you most like to live in Dubai?
Right where I am now, Arabian Ranches. Love it here. Very spoilt.
Your favorite Arabic word or phrase you have learned so far.
Spoke more Arabic in Kuwait than here, but probably be habbibi.
Your least favorite word or phrase you have adopted since moving to Dubai.
In shallah!
What has been your best experience in Dubai to date?
I have many. I have gratitude for everyday of being here but I guess the industry I work in is rewarding in itself – its helping people in general!
Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
Mmm not sure yet, I like the Maldives (don’t we all?) but my 17 month daughter is very active so we have to think of somewhere suitable for her.
Who is the person you most miss when you are in Dubai?
My family in general.
What is your favorite restaurant in Dubai?
I like causal dining if I’m honest and even a bit of pub grub but Nobu would be my favourite restaurant.
What grocery item do you most miss from your home country?
Potatoes, they always look so white when in the UK.
When friends and family visit you in Dubai where will you absolutely take them?
To an infamous Friday brunch!
