Recently here at Eco Clean, we came across something that got us really excited. Something so simple yet so effective. Something that we use daily and don’t even think about because we take it for granted. So, what is it? It’s a hanger. Not just any kind of hanger, mind you, it’s a HangOn hanger, a bio-degradable hanger made from 100% recycled paper!!

Billions of wire and plastic hangers are dumped into landfills worldwide each year, causing an adverse effect to our environment. I think I moved house three time in two years and each time, I think I threw away a box of wire hangers I accumulated from my dry cleaner. These are generally wire hangers but I was also surprised to see that I’d end up with some plastic ones too. Hangers are typically made out of Polystyrene, which leaches benzene, a carcinogen, and Polycarbonate, which leaches bisphenol-A, a hormone disrupter.

All those nasty things contained could take up to a thousand years to break down, which is over 40 generations. All for a simple hanger.

So, how can you get your hands on some? Unfortunately, you can’t just go an buy them. They are going to be used as advertising tools and distributed through your dry-cleaner and, if you’re an Eco Clean customer, your maid will replace your wire and plastic hangers with the bio-degradable one and dispose of them responsibly. What they hope to do is eradicate the use of wire hangers completely in the UAE over the next few years. Let’s hope for all our sakes they succeed.
