Sobha Group Announces Hartland International School

Sobha Group has launched its first venture in the education sector with the announcement of Hartland International School Dubai. The School will be situated in the Sobha Hartland area of Dubai, 3km from the Burj Khalifa and within the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City.

Enrolment for the September 2015 start date has commenced at the ‘Discovery Centre’ on the 5th floor of Sobha Sapphire tower in Business Bay. The ‘Discovery Centre’ is designed to give parents and prospective students a first-hand experience of the School as well as all elements of the facilities. Hartland International launches at a time where the UAE is set to be a major driver for the region’s education sector with 30,000 new school places expected in Dubai over the next two years alone.

With a built-up area of 30,807 sqm, the School will operate under the National Curriculum of England through an innovative, day-boarding model and students will be prepared for International GCSEs. Graduates from Hartland International will be also be provided with the option to study for an International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Headed up by a team of internationally recognized education figures and led by Paul Silverwood, former head of Queen Margaret’s in York, who had a prestigious career in the UK independent day and boarding school sector, the School is set to cater for Dubai’s growing academic needs. Dr Silverwood will be assisted by Professor Ralph Tabberer who previously held the post of Director General of Schools in the UK Government.

Speaking about the launch of Hartland Dr Silverwood said: “I am looking forward to welcoming families to Hartland to find out about the unique education we are offering. Through academic clinics with subject specialists, an inclusive electives programme of creative, sporting and cultural activities and a personalised tutorial system, our students will be challenged and supported as they aim high and seek to exceed their own expectations. We wish to make each lesson and activity fun, interactive and highly enjoyable for all children as they grow in confidence and develop a love of learning.”

Students will be admitted from the foundation stage (FS1 & FS2 for ages 3 to 5) to Year 6 within the first year of operations. As part of the curriculum students will study key courses including English, Mathematics and Science, Humanities, Languages, Computing and Technology courses and The Arts. Children will also gain proficiency in three languages; English, Arabic and one additional language selected from French, German, Mandarin and Spanish.

The Hartland International campus will feature attractive buildings with spacious (63sqm) classrooms overlooking shaded courtyards, superb facilities especially for science, technology and robotics as well as a large auditorium with advanced projection, stage and concert facilities For sports and recreation, Hartland International will offer an eight lane 25m swimming pool and a separate training pool for beginners. There will be an indoor sports centre for gymnastics, basketball, badminton and football as well as an outdoor football field. The rooftop will feature tennis and netball courts as well as shaded play areas with additional indoor activity rooms for dance, drama and physical development.
