Islam is a religion, and Muslims are the people who follow this religion through the Koran, the word of Allah (God). An estimated one in every five people from all races, nationalities and cultures across the globe are Muslim. Unlike popular belief, around only 20% of all Muslims are Arabs and 33% of all Muslims actually live in the Middle East. Islam is founded on five principles: Declaring there is no God but Allah, praying five times a day, charity, making a pilgrimage to Mecca and fasting during Ramadan.
