Domestic Workers To Get More Protection From Exploitation
Whether you have recently moved to Dubai or are just about to embark on the process of recruiting full-time domestic help it can often be confusing as to what they are entitled to. This confusion however, is set to end with a new bill, soon to be passed that will regulate employer-employee contracts to ensure decent working and living conditions for the large number of domestic workers in the UAE.
Once the law, which was ratified by the UAE last year, is passed by the Federal National Council and signed into law by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, domestic workers will receive a written contract of employment and end-of-service gratuity. Significantly, the bill makes it incumbent on the employer to pay recruitment agency fees. It also guarantees payment in cash, at least once a month and at least one weekly day off.
