Another World First For Dubai – And This Time It’s All About Dogs!
THE world’s largest indoor dog park opens its doors over Easter to welcome guests of all shapes and sizes looking for an alternative to short walks around communities where they’re becoming less and less welcome.
My Second Home is the brainchild of a group of dog-loving marketing and sales specialists who’ve spotted a need to bridge the gap between boarding kennels and restrictive outdoor community play areas.
Situated in Dubai Investment Park and spread across the equivalent of 18 tennis courts – with two thirds indoors, the luxury pet resort and spa will eventually offer 200 luxury rooms and high-end suites together with indoor and outdoor pools. Guests can have their hotel room customised with favourite toys and comfort possessions and families will be able to keep an eye on them via webcam while away. Space-age 24/7 surveillance will also add peace of mind. Every room has a flat-screen tv and orthopaedic mattress.
A resident First Aid Officer will be on hand to deal with playtime bumps and bruises, and consulting vets will be minutes away. For health-conscious canine guests and their owners, on-call nutritionists will provide the latest advice on food allergies, diet supplements and challenges such as obesity.
In what is the world’s biggest air conditioned indoor Dog Park owners can stay and play with their dogs, and in the facility’s Daycare and agility centre guests will be cared for by trained handlers and allocated one of three areas to make sure they mix only with fellow fun-lovers who share their size, attitude and temperament. All visitors and residents will be welcome at Groomingdale’s Pampering Parlour which opens in May and where professional groomers and stylists will quickly fix bad hair days. Owners will be able to use the DIY washtub facilities if they prefer something simpler.
But luxury and pampering-aside, it’s the investment in Training by Reinforcement that really makes the difference. The My Second Home team of highly experience trainers and behaviour developers are drawn from around the world. They bring to Dubai the latest and most effective techniques in attitude and temperament adjustment, socialisation, problem behaviour management, puppy progress and first-owner essentials.
“We love our dogs and we know how much they crave interaction and the freedom to play,” said My Second Home Co-Founder and Behaviour Specialist Vaughn Pillay. “But we’re also as frustrated as everyone else that there are so many restrictions and so few places to play when they’re not at home with us. Thankfully, there are some excellent facilities in Dubai, but we felt we needed to go a step further and create a world class environment that focuses on providing our best friends’ most essential need – space to have fun, learn and interact safely.”
