K9 Friends Plea for Summer Foster Homes

k9Are you staying in Dubai for the summer? Do you have a little space in your home and do you have the time to care for a dog in need?

During the months of July and August K9 friends is always full to capacity. The world has left Dubai for vacation and a lot of dogs have been kicked out of their homes as the owners made no provision for them whilst they were gone.

Fostering means caring for a dog in your home until a permanent home can be found or until it needs to return to the shelter. Ideally we are looking for foster homes for July and August. The dogs can be returned to K9 in September when our homing’s pick up again, or on any date pre arranged with our office. Be aware if you live in an apartment we will need a letter from the landlord to say its OK to keep a dog in the building.

Whilst the dog is in your care K9 friends will cover basic veterinary costs but the K9 office should always confirm any treatment first.

If you are interested in fostering please call our office on 04 8878739 or 050 2741949 if you call outside these hours be sure to leave your name and number clearly on the answer machine so we can call you back. We will arrange for you to visit our shelter and you will be shown all of the dogs who are available for fostering. We will do our utmost to ensure that the dogs you are offered are the ones best suited to your lifestyle.

We don’t have very small dogs and we never foster out small puppies or pedigree dogs as they are easily homed from the shelter. Priority for fostering is given to dogs that have been in the shelter a long time and need a break.

Fostering is a great way to help a dog in need without the full time commitment. It is hard work but very rewarding. The first few nights and days can be unsettling for both the dog and foster home, but it is brilliant to see the end result when a dog is better and ready to go to its new home.

The time a dog will spend in a foster home is entirely up to you but we do ask that a few weeks be the minimum time to reduce the stress on the dog.

All of the K9 Friends dogs can be seen on our website  or in our albums on our Facebook page.
