Meet You at MAKE?

Are we seeing a teeny trend with funky cafés opening up in business hubs across Dubai? First up was Shelter in Al Quoz, then Pavilion in Downtown Dubai and now MAKE in Dubai Marina, just behind JBR Walk – thank goodness for different locations. This last one is a beauty, and what prompted FooDiva to review.

With free wi-fi and plenty of desk stations in a minimalist, modern and urban i-style design, anyone can walk in, work away on their laptop and have a bite to eat in the open plan café or at their desk. With so much natural light, you can’t help but smile away. All you pay for is food and drink with no minimum spend.

And trust FooDiva, it’s worth heading to MAKE just for the food whether breakfast with eggs and hotcakes, to lunch and dinner with salads, flatbread sandwiches and light meals – plus your usual coffee, Tchaba teas and mocktail selection. FooDiva can vouch for the seared tuna salad with soy-mirin dressing (AED 45) – coriander infused tuna lightly seared to bring the flavour to the fore, with a mound of mixed salad leaves, diced avocado and cucumber. The mirin used here is an alcohol-free, light yet sweet Japanese rice wine – the sweetness contrasting well with the salty soya.

I was also well impressed with a daily pasta special – the spinach and ricotta ravioli (AED 50) in a light cream sauce, shavings of parmesan, sliced cherry tomatoes and a sprinkling of parsley. Made on the spot, the ravioli was just the right side of al dente with the sauce light enough to allow the fresh ingredients to shine through.
