cyclists-advice-288x300Cyclists have been banned from riding on major roads under tough new laws to be introduced soon in Dubai.

Those riding on roads with speed limits of more than 60kph face fines of up to Dh600 under the laws, which were announced on Sunday.

That fine can be doubled for a second offence in a year, and authorities will be able to impound bikes for a month if there are any further repeats click here to read more from The National.

&MaxW=640&imageVersion=default&AR-150419403Bike enthusiasts on Wednesday welcomed plans for a 21-kilometre track in Dubai as the ideal way to encourage more people to the sport.

The Dh32 million track will connect with the existing cycle path at Seih Assalam.

It runs beside Al Qudra Road to Emirates Road, passing near Global Village and the Hamdan Sports Complex, and on to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road before heading to the green Al Barari community. Read more

This has been built on the old camel track in Nad al Sheba with the spectacular back drop of Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai.  There is a choice of an 8km, 6km and 4km cycle loop all of which are flood-lit enabling cyclists to use the facility in the evening which is important when the weather heats up.  The track comes with services such as changing rooms, toilets, showers and lockers enabling you to pop down after work.
