shopping-in-dubaiBuying essential groceries for the family is important yet it can get expensive at times, according to Dubai residents.

Residents interviewed by Gulf News said they noticed minor increases in grocery items, especially fruits and vegetables, almost every other month.

Though they claimed the small price increases do not burden them financially, some were frustrated at the quick rate that these price changes occur.

Many residents also pointed out that food item prices differ significantly from one supermarket to another.

Gulf News visited two hypermarkets and two supermarkets to set up a price basket: Spinneys, Choithram, Carrefour and Union Co-op to compare prices. Read more

The original Farmers’ Market on the terrace is back from Friday 8th March 2013, 9am-1pm in a new location. Buy fresh, organic, local, affordable produce direct from the farmers under the shady palm trees in Jumeirah Emirates Towers Ballroom Garden. All your favourite farmers and artisans, including Baker & Spice, will be there. This community initiative supports farmers and makes the freshest goods available.

The vegetables and herbs are picked in the morning and are in front of you on the various market stands by 9am every Friday.
