If you have recently moved to Dubai this will probably be your first UAE National Day.  You will witness Emiratis and expatriates alike celebrating National Day with much pride and energy.

This takes place on 2nd December, the date back in 1971 when the separate sheikdoms decided to form an independent union. At first the UAE was a federation of six emirates – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah, Fujairah and Ajman. The emirate of Ras Al Khaimah was added a year later.

New Hijri Year holiday

Both private and public sector employees are expected to have a day off on November 15 on the occasion of New Hijri Year.

Similarly, employees in the UAE can usher in the New Year with a holiday on January 1, 2013.

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources are yet to issue the official holiday schedules for government sector and federal ministries, while the Ministry of Labour will issue holiday schedules for the private sector.
