Dubai and Abu Dhabi are continuing to witness increase in cost of living as rents soar, but the emirates still remain quite cheaper for expatriates compared to other global cities, according to a new survey.

ECA International’s latest ‘Cost of Living’ survey places Dubai at 171st position globally, while Abu Dhabi is placed at the 181st position of 440 cities surveyed. In its June survey, Dubai was placed at 174th position.

“The price of items in ECA’s cost of living basket for expatriates has gone up significantly and both Dubai and Abu Dhabi have also risen in the ranking,” the survey states. Read more

Prices for one-bed apartment in Discovery Gardens at Dh35,000-45,000 pa

It’s official. Rentals of apartments in The Greens rose the highest, outperforming Dubai Marina and Downtown Dubai, the two communities that saw the highest transaction activity and price increases last year.

Dubai’s Real Estate Regulatory Agency’s (Rera) latest rent index update for 2013 reveals that the cost of renting a studio, one- and two-bed apartment in The Greens, a community developed and managed by Emaar Properties, jumped by 22 per cent, 15 per cent and 28 per cent, respectively.

The index, which is updated thrice a year, puts current rents for studios between Dh45,000 and Dh55,000 per annum compared to Dh35,000 to Dh55,000 stated in 2012’s last index update. Read more
