Charity Spotlight: Gulf for Good
GULF FOR GOOD : GIVING KIDS A CHANCE AROUND THE WORLD
Get fit, have fun, go somewhere exciting and do something worthwhile at the same time … this UAE-licensed, UK-registered charity has the answer!
Founded in 2001 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Gulf for Good’s adventure challenges raise money for handpicked children’s charities around the world.
To date, 40 challenges in 22 countries involving 850+ participants, aged from 16 to 72, have raised US$2 million, which has been donated to tangible & carefully thought out projects in the challenge host countries. Some of the projects they’ve funded include building: schools in Tanzania, Peru, Jordan, Oman, Ethiopia; hospitals in Nepal, Haiti; orphanages in Thailand, Cambodia, Mongolia, Egypt; mobile hospitals in Indian slums, and many more.
These fantastic challenges make a huge difference to peoples’ lives. Obviously, the recipients of the funds benefit enormously, but doing the challenge itself often turns out to be a life-changing experience for many participants. They always visit the charity and get stuck right in to doing some work there – building, painting, tree planting, even playing a friendly game of football with the kids!
So, how can you get involved?
- The most obvious answer is to sign up for one of their exciting adventure challenges for children’s charities. This year, they have the following (see below for more details):
-
- The Palestine Trail 26th April – 4th May2013
- Trek to the Roof of Africa, Kilimanjaro 5 13 July 2013
- The Alternative Inca Trail – Peru 6 – 14 July 2013
- The Last Shangri-La (India) 15 – 23 November 2013
- You could also volunteer to help the Gulf for Good team here in the UAE with all sorts of activities from basic admin tasks to helping at big events such as the Marathon. They also often have more specific tasks needing skills such as PR and communications, IT, graphic design, copy writing, etc. So, you can put your personal skills to great use
- Gulf for Good also need help to publicise their challenges, so you could spread the word about by putting up posters, forwarding information emails, etc. Even following Gulf for Good on Facebook or Twitter and forwarding their posts can make a difference
- Finally, your company could become involved by supporting your employees’ participation in a Gulf for Good challenge or by making a financial contribution to the charity
So, decide to make a real difference and give thousands of children a chance. Rise to the challenge and get involved now!
