Take the ‘Bah!Humbug!’ out of Holiday Season Travels
The holiday season is upon us and as expatiates many of us are busily making plans to travel back to our home countries and abroad for holiday. In order to ensure a timely, happy reunion with family and friends and avoid a very bah-humbug holiday, it is important to take the time to review expiration details regarding you and your family’s passports.
You are probably thinking, no problem, our family’s passports have not expired. While good, it is critical you look at your family’s passports and review how many months before expiration each passport has. The rules of travel are changing and many host countries are requiring passports be valid for at least six months beyond the end date of your intended stay. Many airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met.
Each host country has different rules and regulations we recommend passports having 12 months of validity before expiration. This will help alleviate headaches of having to re-register or pay for an expedited passport renewal fee. If possible, you should renew you and your family’s passports approximately nine (9) months before it expires.
