THE WILD WALL CHALLENGE
18 – 26 MAY : CHINA
6 days of hiking along the most spectacular sections of the Great Wall of China. Passing through farmland, valleys, mountains, ancient tombs and quiet villages, the route will involve gently undulating sections, but also some steep and rocky terrain, requiring scrambling to reach the most impressive parts of the wild wall. We’ll stay in small local hotels, as well as home-stays.
TREK TO THE ROOF OF AFRICA, KILIMANJARO
6 – 14 JULY : TANZANIA
Taking the Marangu route on the eastern side of the mountain, we’ll trek through dramatically varying terrains, including rainforests, meadows, moorlands and ‘The Saddle’ – a high-altitude, 5km-wide desert. The journey will steadily take us up, via mountain huts, from 1,700m to 4,724m before the final push to the renowned Gilman’s Point (5,681m) and on to the glaciated summit at Uhuru Peak (5,895m).
TRANSYLVANIAN TREK
17 – 24 AUGUST : ROMANIA
A 5-day, low altitude, but challenging hike through the Carpathian Mountains, exploring medieval Transylvania. Crossing high plateaus, deep gorges, forests, secluded valleys and mountain villages, the route will take us to Bran Castle (infamous as Dracula’s castle!), the medieval town of Brasov and a walking tour of Bucharest. We’ll stay in a mix of small, local hotels, family-run guest houses and mountain huts.
ROAD TO MANDALAY
23 – 30 NOVEMBER : MYANMAR (BURMA)
2 days of hiking and 3 days of cycling will test your physical fitness, while stays in small guest houses and visits to pagodas, temples and deserted royal cities will reveal the hidden secrets of Myanmar, it’s incredible history and diverse cultures. We’ll hike the Chin hills, including Mt Victoria (3,053m), then cycle through the Irawaddy river valley until we reach Mandalay, the historic royal capital of Myanmar.
