Volunteer or Give This Ramadan in Dubai

ramadan-charityWhile living in Dubai, Ramadan is the perfect time to get involved with local charities.  Charity is very important in Islam, and even more so during Ramadan. Zakāt, often translated as “the poor-rate,” is obligatory as one of the pillars of Islam; a fixed percentage of the person’s savings is required to be given to the poor.

Here are a few charities below that you can give to or volunteer with throughout the month of Ramadan and don’t forget to check out our Charity Directory for charities you can help out all year round.

Adopt a Camp

This is a charity that has been operating for 8 years.  Adopt-a-Camp (AAC) is an initiative to meaningfully improve the lives of the men who build the beautiful cities in which we live. In past years they have run a ‘Ramadan Care Package Appeal’ however, this year they have launched the Project Wishlist campaign for members of the public to donate items that labourers request.  ‘Wishes’ include items such as bikes and Iftar meals.  Click on their facebook page for more details.

Moti Roti – Filling the Blues

Moti Roti has started a campaign where they provide food for labourers.  They are looking for volunteers to help distribute the food and for restaurants to provide the food.  Companies already involved include Moti Roti (of course). Taqado Mexican Kitchen. BookMunch Cafe. Camelicious. Shakeism. The Kebab Shop. Shamiana. Flames Grills & Curries. RoundMenu. iConsultHotels. Timepiece360. Synquatics.

Volunteers should turn up any night (except Fridays) to the construction entrance next to Media Rotana, Tecom. Bring whoever you like. Setup starts at 8.15pm, then we just hand out the food as the guys start clocking out. Please bring cartons of water if you can
